• What is a School Board?

Every school district has a governing body called the school board. The school board is made up of various residents of the district, including teachers, parents, and community members, and each member has a say in the decisions of the district. Board members make up several committees who are responsible for the district's Finances, Expansion, Governance, and Academic Excellence

Board Meetings are held once a month -- the Technical Academies of Minnesota meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month.

Tammie Knick, TAM Wide Teacher Representative/Board Chair

In July of 2013, I joined the Technical Academies of Minnesota School Board and started organizing a start-up advisory council for the Willmar location. In May of 2014, I was hired as the School Social Worker for DREAM Technical Academy in Willmar.

My husband Doug and I live on a farm near Spicer with our 9 horses, our dogs Diego and Aspen and 4 cats. Between the two of us, we have four daughters, their significant others, and five grandchildren. I enjoy spending time with family, reading, gardening, camping and traveling.

I chose to work at DREAM because I believe a small learning environment that offers individualized, project-based learning is what many students need to have a successful educational experience. I also like the staff-led school concept, which allows the staff to make decisions collectively based upon what’s in the best interest of the students.

If I were a student at DREAM, my projects would be based on traveling to different parts of the country, whether in person or virtually, to learn about different cultures. My favorite quote is “Find something you love to do, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” This is my hope for students that they will follow their passions or their dreams, which will lead them to find a career they love.

Rochelle Shultz - CHOICE Parent Representative

My name is Rochelle Shultz, and I joined the Technical Academies of Minnesota Board in August of 2022 as a parent representative.

I have had experience serving on child abuse prevention boards, hold a Master's Degree in Public Administration, and have extensive knowledge of teacher-lead, project-based school systems.  Generally speaking, I also take collaborative approaches to solving problems, coordinating solutions, and serving community members.

As a parent of a current student, I would like to continue to support the educational endeavors of an education system that does not dictate to students what to learn, but focuses on how to learn.  It is my firm belief that this type of education is more conducive to the realities of a changing workforce and world.
